SUSTAINABILITY &
ECOLOGY

For the Woodbloc team, sustainability is not a chore – on the contrary! It is our passion, our lifeblood, our motivation. Together with builders, planners, craftsmen and decision-makers, we want to make construction in general, and timber construction in particular, even more ecological. We want to take responsibility, take action and contribute to the construction transition. That is why we rely on local wood as a renewable raw material, renewable energies in processing, durable solid wood products that can be dismantled and recycled, circular construction and much more. Not because it is required, but because we believe in it. What makes Woodbloc so sustainable? It’s the full package! Here is an insight into our sustainability philosophy based on the 3-pillar model.

ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainable wood sourcing

Sustainable wood sourcing

Woodbloc is PEFC certified. The seal shows: We are committed to sustainable forest management. For the solid wood walls & ceilings in your construction projects, we process wood exclusively from sustainably managed forests.

Renewable energies

Renewable energies

We produce almost energy self-sufficiently and use renewable energy: Woodbloc uses green electricity. We are even willing to pay more for it. This allows us to save 122,464 kg of CO₂ per year. The electricity for production and office use is supplied by the photovoltaic system on the roof of the production hall.

Resource conservation

Resource conservation

Wood – a renewable raw material and natural resource we treat with care: We process the entire trunk, from core to bark. To minimize waste, we pre-cut window and door openings in our walls from the start, reducing wood waste. We also process calamity timber – weak or damaged wood that would otherwise rot in the forest.

Woodbloc honey manufactory

Woodbloc honey manufactory

Environmental protection and biodiversity matter to us. In our honey manufactory, we provide a home to 500,000 bees from ten colonies – in our own solid-wood beehouse, surrounded by flowering meadows, trees, and shrubs as valuable habitats, all cared for by our in-house beekeeper.

Cradle-to-cradle thinking

Cradle-to-cradle thinking

The cradle-to-cradle philosophy focuses on product recyclability. Woodbloc solid wood walls and ceilings can be completely dismantled and recycled – perfect for a natural material cycle. They consist of solid, untreated wooden boards and beams, connected with wooden nails or dowels, completely free of metal and glue.

Wood: natural CO₂ storage

Wood: natural CO₂ storage

We rely on solid wood products as a climate-friendly alternative/complement to building materials such as concrete, brick or steel. One cubic meter of wood stores up to one ton of CO₂ for years.

Economic Principles

Short transport distances & regional wood

Short transport distances &
regional wood

The Bavarian Forest is one of the largest forest areas in Central Europe. Our raw material grows right at our doorstep. Woodbloc stands for short transport routes and regional value creation to reduce emissions and CO₂ during wood procurement. That’s why we use wood from our own forest or buy from local forest owners within a 30 km radius. Sawn locally as well.

Sustainable construction financing

Sustainable construction financing

Bavarian timber construction funding, KfW subsidies and other programs make building with solid wood financially attractive. Sustainability pays off – which is why we also advise our partners on financing related to sustainable timber construction.

Relief on the construction site

Relief on the construction site

Woodbloc solid wood elements arrive ready on the construction site – including pre-milled installations, just-in-time, when needed. This means: less storage space required, fast installation, high flexibility and planning security, more independence from weather, shorter construction time. Work relief for employees through modular timber systems plus economic sustainability for the company!

Almost energy self-sufficient production

Almost energy self-sufficient production

State-of-the-art technology enables almost energy self-sufficient production at Woodbloc. All machines operate energy-efficiently, which was THE most important point when planning our new production. Wood waste is automatically chipped. It goes into our heating plant and supplies the site with heat. Waste heat is used for drying the wood. Surplus wood chips are processed into pellets by local partners. Pure “forest energy”!

Economic stability

Economic stability

Sustainable supply chains for wood procurement, long-term partnerships, close cooperation with planners, thoughtful logistics and transport with our own trucks whose routes and loading are digitally optimized: All this ensures that Woodbloc products arrive on time, prices remain stable, unnecessary trips are avoided, and our solid wood products are constantly improved and optimized.

Innovative products, new markets

Innovative products,
new markets

Wood as a building material is more in demand than ever. Woodbloc stands for new, innovative and approved solid wood building materials. Planners, carpenters and construction companies can use them in solid wood construction, as a complement in timber frame construction, in brick-and-wood hybrid construction, in combination or as an alternative to steel, concrete and glass to realize ecological building projects.

Social Responsibility

We make it social

We make it social

Social engagement? Absolutely! That’s why we regularly support local institutions such as kindergartens, special education schools or vocational schools with wood and material donations, but also with carpenter manpower. We help with projects like sandboxes and more.

Craftsmanship for children

Craftsmanship for children

Enthusiasm is contagious. That is why we provided a plot of land on our company premises and built the first and only “Technology House” in the district together with partners, free of charge. In this workshop, the association “Technology for Children” inspires several thousand children and young people each year about technology, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

OHA sustainability heroes

OHA sustainability heroes

“Ostbayern handles” is the motto of the OHA sustainability initiative. We are based in Eastern Bavaria – and we act accordingly. Currently, our trainees are actively involved as OHA sustainability heroes in a sustainability project within the company. We aim to promote community, strengthen ecological thinking, and inspire future generations.

Healthy building & living

Healthy building & living

The natural wood in Woodbloc solid wood products ensures a pleasant indoor climate, not only for allergy sufferers. The boards in the walls are made of 100 percent solid, untreated wood, with no chemicals. The walls and ceilings breathe, allowing diffusion-open construction and living, wood that does not sweat, natural heat insulation, and balancing of humidity and temperature. Solid wood means natural power for body and soul.

Responsibility in the workplace

Responsibility in the workplace

Our employees are the most important part of our company. A family-friendly 4-day work week, ergonomic workplaces, training opportunities in timber planning and construction, fair wages, and comprehensive social benefits are standard – as are noise protection measures and state-of-the-art extraction systems for dust-free working conditions.

Timber construction partner power

Timber construction partner power

Working together: We rely on partnerships to advance sustainable solid timber construction. In architect forums, company tours, training sessions, lectures, practice days with universities or events like the Sagler meeting, we share our knowledge. The icing on the cake: exciting collaboration projects such as with CyberCraft to combine AI, digitalization, craftsmanship and timber construction.
